I Still Have a Dream!

I was born in September of 1963, a little late to catch Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech, but not too late for it to have always been a driving force in my life. In my youth it seemed that hope and grief always existed together, always canceling each other out - swiftly and without mercy. Two months after I was born JFK was assassinated and the world was in a state of mourning that was constant until RFK and Dr. King were assassinated a handful of years later. What seemed impossible, a nation that had been saddened to the point of despair with the death of JFK, became desolate with the additional loss of these two men. You could argue, with great certainty, that the loss of all of them is still felt right at this moment on this very day.

Maybe the fact that we still remember is our constant reminder of the ultimate power of good. It is also a source of inspiration for us to do more, to be better members of the human race, without regard to our simple genetic racial heritage.

Dr. King's legacy specifically has paved the way for all races along the path to freedom and equality. Today the first American-African (& White!) senator from Illinois Barack Hussein Obama (with the Muslim sounding name no less) is accepting the formal nomination of the Democratic Party for President of the United States of America.

Somewhere Dr. King is smiling, watching as his dream comes to life and continues to GROW.

It is more than a little disturbing to hear good friends of mine, especially former Clinton supporters, describe Hillary's exit from the Presidential campaign as "graceful". To me, she would have approached the perimeter of graceful had she conceded victory to Obama on election night. With that action (or inaction) alone, even in light of the "exciting-for-women" speech that followed, she did a great disservice to many, herself included.

It turned out to be much more of the same, "it's all about me" that comes from the Clinton camp. We are entitled ... we are still here ... 18 million voices have supported US/ME - look at what power we still have and will continue to have. Now, dare to wonder what we will do with it. Watch and wait for Saturday's speech where I will coax more women to fall under my spell. Watch my one hand while the other is holding onto my(!) delegates, conceding nothing, simply suspending my campaign.

I stand here smiling before you, while I am really lying in wait for the "inevitable" to happen to or around Senator Obama. I will be here for you when that happens ... to comfort and ease your shame for being enamored with a shiny harbinger of hope that only shows how naive you are. Do not worry, that only proves that you need me to fight for you and to separate you from your innocence. The real world is a scary place and fighting is the only way to live in it. Forget Iran, on day one I will be ready to decimate your optimism and your American pride so that we will finally be on the same page. Then I (I mean we!) can rule the world!

I am often accused of being the one drinking the Kool-Aid, as I am not a person who is easily understood. In the end, however, it is clear to most that my motivations are at least prompted by compassion and are better understood after the fact. In general, the post-mortem of most of my capers includes the underlying desire to be of equal service to all. Given the opportunity, I believe that this is the path that most people would take, if they felt secure enough to do so.

Welcome to Tuesday, June 3, the last day of the primary season.
Will it be much more than that? Will Obama clinch the nomination with a delegate boost?
Will HRC concede gracefully or at all?

The signs are pointing to a strategic if not graceful exit by HRC after today's primaries, but I have never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak. The tenacity that she has shown throughout this campaign was not lost on me, so I will not be comforted until he corpulent lady sings. Even then I think that HRC will simply suspend her campaign, still "hoping" for that rotting skeleton in the closet or the suicidal gaffe or, dare I say, assassination attempt?

This is politics we are talking about after all, why is everyone so surprised when candidates say what they really think? As a fellow human being I would hope that there was not really an "assassination strategy", but (also a fellow human being) I know that it has to have crossed her mind. Oh, what a horrible thing, but it is a good thing that I am here to pick up his torch and fight to the end! It is all part of the drive for power, never quite knowing where to draw the line.

Enough about that ... I will be waiting eagerly to see what happens today, will you?
Though I live in Vegas I am not usually a betting sort, but if I was I would think that there are more surprises in the Clinton playbook. They are definitely not Raider players continually defaulting to the prevent defense, regardless of the situation. Rather, they are their own historians, creating their history as they want it to be remembered ... even if they have to edit the text and/or the entire library to do it.

However you look at it, today will be a day that will be important this year in history.

I am not a big fan of Keith Olbermann, but this is the second time in this campaign that he has impressed me with his passion and straight talk. The first was the Ferraro racism thread where it could be argued that Clinton was in agreement due to her failure to respond. Yesterday the words went straight from Clinton's mouth to the sick, twisted and dark underbelly of this nation. Her words could only really be heard there, where that vocabulary is familiar. To the decent people of this nation her words were a physical and psychological affront to all that they hold dear

I would like to think that most people strive to somehow be impeccable with their word (see The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz). This means that they use the power of their word, and make no mistake there is great power in the word, in the direction of truth and love.

I think we should all show Senator Clinton the way of truth and love, for she is clearly having no success in those areas, and it will take all of us.
